Aaron's take

Locksmith is one of the largest emergency searches I have seen. "Locksmith near me" gets around 673,000 searches a month in the US and "locksmith" about 368,000. It is also a category with a history of fake listings and bait pricing, so Google applies extra scrutiny and customers are wary.

The locksmiths that win online are real, verifiable local businesses: a genuine address or service area, licences where required, clear call-out prices and fast response. Pages for car keys, lockouts, rekeying and smart locks catch different needs. Most of the top-reviewed locksmiths also list key duplication and emergency locksmith services on their profile.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Emergency lockout page

The most urgent searches. Show response times and call-out prices.

  2. Car key replacement page

About 33,100 searches a month. Explain which vehicles and keys you handle.

  3. Rekeying page

New homeowners and landlords search for this. A steady, non-emergency job.

  4. Smart lock installation page

A growing service with its own searches.

  5. Commercial locksmith page

Businesses need master keys, access control and repairs.

  6. About us page with licence details

Customers are wary of fake locksmiths. Show you are real and licensed.

Google Business Profile

What to get right

  • Use Locksmith as your primary category. Of the 10 most-reviewed US locksmiths I checked, 7 added Key duplication service and 6 added Emergency locksmith service.
  • Use your real business name and address or service area. Google is strict with locksmith listings.
  • Mark 24-hour hours only if someone really answers.
  • Ask customers to mention response time and price in their reviews.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for locksmiths

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • Nextdoor
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Locksmiths can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Locksmith
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are not available, so ads only run once verification is complete.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Structured data

Add this to your home page, filled in with your details, so search engines and AI tools know exactly what your business is, where it is and how to reach you. It uses the Locksmith type.

Mistakes

Mistakes locksmiths make

  1. Fake or virtual addresses

Google removes them, and customers are wary. Use a real address or service area.

  2. Bait pricing

Low quotes that triple on site cause bad reviews and complaints.

  3. One generic page

Lockouts, car keys and rekeying are different needs. Give each a page.

  4. Slow response

Lockouts are urgent. Answer fast, every time.

FAQ

Locksmith SEO questions

How big is search demand for locksmiths?

Very large. In the US, "locksmith near me" gets about 673,000 searches a month and "locksmith" about 368,000. Most are urgent. A fast site, clear call-out prices and a real, verifiable business profile decide who gets the call. Reviews that mention fair pricing and response time help you stand out in a crowded category.

Can locksmiths use Local Services Ads?

Locksmith is a US Local Services Ads category under home services, with the Google Verified badge and booking leads available. Pre-badge ads are not offered for locksmiths, so ads only run once verification is complete. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Why does Google treat locksmith listings differently?

Because locksmith is a category with a history of fake listings and misleading pricing. Real locksmiths should use their genuine business name and a real address or service area, keep details accurate and build reviews steadily. It protects your profile and earns customer trust.

Which locksmith services should have their own pages?

Emergency lockouts, car key replacement, rekeying, smart locks and commercial work. "Car key replacement" alone gets about 33,100 searches a month in the US. Each is a different customer need, and separate pages match each search. Commercial pages also bring in steady, repeat work from local businesses.

How much does SEO cost for a locksmith?

There is no single price. The main factors are your local competition, the number of services and towns you want to show up for, and how much your current site needs fixing. Monthly work suits most locksmiths, since rankings keep improving with new content and reviews. I give a fixed quote after reviewing your site and competitors.
