Aaron's take

Fence companies pay some of the highest prices for paid leads in home services. Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead, so every job that comes in from organic search or the map pack is money you did not hand to Google.

The gap I see on most home service websites, and fence sites are no exception, is that they are built around the company instead of the search. Homeowners do not type "fence installation". They type "vinyl fence", "privacy fence cost" or "fence repair near me". A site with one page per material, honest price ranges and a separate repair page answers those searches directly, and that is usually what moves a fence company from page two into the map pack.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. A page for each fence material you install

Chain link, privacy, vinyl and wood fences each get 40,000 or more searches a month. Homeowners search by material first, so each one needs its own page with photos of your installs.

  2. A fence repair page, separate from installation

Repair searches come in all year, and gate repair actually peaks in December. Small repair jobs often turn into full replacements later.

  3. Fence cost guide

"Fence installation cost" doubles from winter to spring. Show price ranges per linear foot for each material and explain what changes the price.

  4. Pool, dog and privacy fence pages

People buying a fence for a reason search for that reason. A pool fence page can cover local safety rules, and a dog fence page can cover height and digging.

  5. Permits, HOA rules and property lines page

Homeowners worry about permits, HOA approval and where the line is. Explaining how you handle them for your area wins trust before the first call.

  6. Project pages for your main towns

Each finished job with photos, the material and the town gives Google proof that you work in that area, and gives homeowners a fence like theirs to look at.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for fence companies

Primary category
Fence contractor
Secondary categories
Fence supply storeDeck builderConcrete contractorContractor

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Fence contractor as your primary category. It was the primary category for 17 of the 20 fence companies I checked on Google Maps.
  • Fence is a narrow category, so most fence companies add only one or two secondary categories. Add Fence supply store only if you sell materials to the public, and Deck builder only if you build decks.
  • Add each fence type you install as a service, with a short description, so your profile matches searches like "vinyl fence" and "pool fence".
  • Upload photos of finished fences with the material in the description. Homeowners compare styles before they ask for a quote.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for fence companies

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • Houzz
  • BBB
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Fence Companies can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Fencing services
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes fence companies make

  1. One "Fence Installation" page for everything

Homeowners search for the fence they want, like vinyl, chain link or privacy. A single installation page cannot rank for all of them, so most of those searches go to competitors.

  2. Hiding prices

Cost searches spike every spring. Sites that give honest price ranges per linear foot keep those visitors, and the leads that come in already know roughly what to expect.

  3. Treating repairs as an afterthought

Repair work fills the slow months and often leads to a full replacement. Without a dedicated repair page, you miss searches that come in all year.

  4. Ignoring the long season

Fence demand stays high into July, longer than most outdoor trades. Keep posting project photos and asking for reviews through the summer instead of stopping after spring.

FAQ

Fence Company SEO questions

When is the busiest season for fence companies?

In the US, fence searches climb in March and stay high through July, at about twice the December low. That is a longer season than most outdoor trades. New pages need a few months to rank, so the best time to build or improve your site is late autumn and winter.

Should a fence company use Local Services Ads?

Fencing services is on Google's list of Local Services Ads categories, and the Google Verified badge is available. In a live Dallas search I checked in October 2026, fence company Local Services Ads sat above the map results. They work best alongside SEO, because reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both.

What Google Business Profile category should a fence company use?

Use Fence contractor as the primary category. Of 20 fence companies I checked on Google Maps, 17 used it as their primary category. Add secondary categories only for work you really do, such as Deck builder or Fence supply store, so you are not shown for searches you cannot serve.

Should I put fence prices on my website?

Yes, as ranges. Thousands of people search for fence installation cost every month, and they leave sites that give no idea of price. Show a range per linear foot for each material and explain what changes it, such as height, gates and ground conditions. You still quote each job after measuring.

How much does SEO cost for a fence company?

It depends on how many materials and towns you want to rank for, how competitive your area is, and what your current site needs. Most fence companies pay monthly, because project pages, reviews and seasonal updates need steady work. I review your site and local competitors first, then give you a fixed quote.
