Aaron's take

"Plumber near me" gets around 823,000 searches a month in the US, and it barely changes between summer and winter. That steadiness is the good news about plumbing SEO: once you rank, the calls keep coming all year.

The challenge is that most of those searches happen on a phone, often in a hurry, and more and more through voice assistants. Rising searches include "same day plumber" and "find me a plumber" spoken to a phone. The plumbing sites that win load fast, show the phone number at the top of every page and have a clear page for each job, from drain cleaning to tankless water heaters.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Emergency plumber page

Emergency and 24-hour searches convert fastest. Show your hours, response time and a tap-to-call button at the top.

  2. Water heater pages, including tankless

"Tankless water heater" gets around 201,000 searches a month and water heater repair about 74,000. Repair and installation each need a page.

  3. Drain cleaning page

About 110,000 searches a month, and drain calls often lead to camera inspections and sewer work.

  4. Sewer line repair page

Fewer searches, but some of the highest-value jobs in plumbing. Explain inspection, repair options and what affects cost.

  5. Leak detection page

People who suspect a hidden leak search for detection specifically. It is a natural first step to repair work.

  6. Service area pages for your main towns

Plumbing is local and urgent. Pages for the towns you cover, with real jobs there, help you show up in each area.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for plumbers

Primary category
Plumber
Secondary categories
Drainage serviceSeptic system serviceHVAC contractorHeating contractor

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Plumber as your primary category. All 10 of the most-reviewed US plumbing companies I checked also listed HVAC contractor, and 8 listed Drainage service.
  • Those big companies are multi-trade shops. Only add HVAC contractor, Electrician or Heating contractor if you are licensed and really do the work.
  • Keep hours accurate and mark 24-hour service if you offer it. Emergency searchers call whoever looks open.
  • Add each service, from drain cleaning to water heaters, with a short description so your profile matches specific searches.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for plumbers

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • Trustpilot
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Plumbers can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Plumber
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes plumbers make

  1. A slow mobile site

Most plumbing searches happen on phones, often in an emergency. A page that takes too long to load sends the caller straight to a competitor.

  2. Hiding the phone number

Put it at the top of every page and make it tap-to-call. A contact form alone loses people with water on the floor.

  3. One page for all services

Water heaters, drains and sewer lines each have their own searches. A single services page cannot rank for all of them.

  4. Not replying to reviews

Plumbing customers read reviews to judge reliability and honesty. Calm, specific replies, especially to bad reviews, show both.

FAQ

Plumber SEO questions

Is plumbing SEO seasonal?

Very little. In the US, searches for plumbers are almost flat across the year, with the busiest month only about 1.1 times the quietest. "Plumber near me" gets around 823,000 searches a month in both April and December, so strong rankings bring in calls all year.

Should a plumber use Local Services Ads?

Plumber is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. They work best alongside SEO, because reviews and a complete profile help both. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

What pages should a plumbing website have?

An emergency plumber page, separate pages for water heater repair, installation and tankless systems, drain cleaning, sewer line repair and leak detection, plus pages for your main service towns. Each targets a different search, and each should make calling you a single tap on a phone.

Does voice search matter for plumbers?

It is growing. Rising plumbing searches include phrases like "find me a plumber" spoken to a phone assistant. Voice assistants lean on Google Business Profiles and clear website answers, so accurate hours, categories, services and a fast mobile site all help.

How much does SEO cost for a plumbing company?

It depends on your market, how many services and towns you want to rank for, and what your site needs. Most plumbers pay monthly, because reviews, service pages and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and local competitors first, then give you a fixed quote.
