Aaron's take

Dietitians compete with a crowded field of nutrition coaches and apps, and many people do not know the difference. "Dietitian" and "nutritionist" each get about 49,500 searches a month in the US, and among the top related searches are what a dietitian is and registered dietitian. Insurance coverage is a strong selling point that many coaches cannot offer.

The dietitian practices that win online explain what a registered dietitian does, write pages for the conditions they help with, such as diabetes, weight management and digestive health, explain insurance clearly and offer telehealth if they can. Nine of the 10 most-reviewed dietitians I checked also list Nutritionist on their profile.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. What a dietitian does page

Many people do not know the difference from a coach.

  2. Condition pages

Diabetes, weight, digestive health and more each have their own searches.

  3. Insurance page

Coverage is a big advantage. Explain it clearly.

  4. Telehealth page

    Online sessions widen your reach.

  5. First session page

Explain what happens and what to bring.

  6. Team page

    Show credentials and specialties.

Google Business Profile

Primary category

Secondary categories

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Dietitian as your primary category. Of the 10 most-reviewed US dietitians I checked, 9 added Nutritionist and 4 added Weight loss service.
  • Mention insurance and telehealth in your description if you offer them.
  • Never confirm a patient's condition or treatment in review replies. Health privacy rules apply.
  • Ask clients to describe how sessions helped, in their own words.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for dietitians and nutritionists

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Facebook
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Dietitians And Nutritionists can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Dietitian
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are not available, so ads only run once verification is complete.
  • Booking leads are not available for health care categories.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Health & Fitness category average $67.36 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes dietitians and nutritionists make

  1. Not explaining credentials

People confuse dietitians and coaches. Explain your training.

  2. Hiding insurance

Coverage is a big advantage. Make it obvious.

  3. Generic content

Condition pages match how people search.

  4. Promising weight loss numbers

Be honest about what to expect.

FAQ

Dietitian SEO questions

How do people search for dietitians?

Often with uncertainty about what they need. In the US, "dietitian" and "nutritionist" each get about 49,500 searches a month, and related searches include what a dietitian is. Explaining your credentials and the conditions you help with brings in the right clients.

Can dietitians use Local Services Ads?

They can. Dietitian is one of Google's US Local Services Ads categories in the health care group. The badge is available once verified, while pre-badge ads and booking leads are not. Most practices get the best results running ads next to SEO. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Should dietitians explain insurance?

Yes, clearly. Many health coaches cannot take insurance, so coverage is a real advantage. Explain which plans you accept, whether a referral is needed and what clients pay without insurance. A simple coverage check form makes it even easier for new clients to start. Many people do not know their plan covers nutrition counselling.

Should dietitians offer telehealth?

If you can, yes. Online sessions let you reach clients beyond your local area and suit busy people. A page explaining how telehealth sessions work, and which states you can serve, widens your market. Telehealth also makes follow-up sessions easier to keep, which helps clients get results.

How much does SEO cost for a dietitian practice?

It depends on how competitive your area is, how many services and locations you want to rank for and what your website needs first. Most dietitian practices pay monthly, because new pages, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and the competitors near you first, then give you a fixed quote.
