Aaron's take

Driving schools have two audiences: teenagers who need a licence and the parents who pay. "Driving school near me" and "drivers ed near me" each get around 301,000 searches a month in the US, among the larger local searches I have seen. Online drivers ed is a growing option too, and many searches are about the driving test itself.

The driving schools that win online explain state requirements clearly, show packages and prices, offer online booking for lessons and road tests, and write for parents as much as students. Searches peak in June and July, so packages and booking pages should be ready by spring.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Teen drivers ed page

Explain state requirements and how your course meets them.

  2. Adult driving lessons page

Adults learning to drive search separately and need a different approach.

  3. Online drivers ed page

A growing option. Explain how it works and what is still needed in person.

  4. Road test page

Driving test searches are large. Explain how you help students prepare and pass.

  5. Packages and prices page

Parents compare costs. Clear packages help them decide.

  6. Online booking page

Let students and parents book lessons easily.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for driving schools

Primary category
Driving school
Secondary categories

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Driving school as your primary category. The most-reviewed US driving schools I checked added few secondaries, most often Drivers license training school.
  • Add Driving test center only if you are approved to give tests.
  • Post updates when summer sessions open.
  • Ask students and parents to mention passing their test in their reviews.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for driving schools

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Facebook
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Driving Schools can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Driving instructor

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Education & Instruction category average $77.48 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes driving schools make

  1. Writing only for teens

Parents usually pay. Answer their questions about safety, cost and requirements.

  2. Unclear state requirements

Explain exactly what your course covers and what the state needs.

  3. No online booking

Students and parents want to book quickly.

  4. Missing summer

Searches peak in summer. Be ready by spring.

FAQ

Driving School SEO questions

How do people search for driving schools?

Mostly locally. In the US, "driving school near me" and "drivers ed near me" each get about 301,000 searches a month. Parents and students then compare packages, prices and reviews, so clear course pages and easy booking win the most students.

Can driving schools use Local Services Ads?

Driving instructor is one of Google's US Local Services Ads categories. You pay per lead, and ads can appear above regular results for driving school searches. They work best alongside SEO, since reviews help both. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

When do people search for driving schools?

In the US, driving school searches peak in June and July, and are lowest in November and December. Having summer packages, prices and booking ready by spring helps you fill sessions early. Posts on your Google Business Profile when summer sessions open help remind families to book.

Should driving schools write for parents?

Yes. Teens may want to drive, but parents usually choose and pay. Pages that explain safety, instructor experience, state requirements and cost answer parents' questions and make your school the easier choice. Reviews from parents carry a lot of weight with other parents, so ask them too, not only students.

How much does SEO cost for a driving school?

That comes down to three things: the competition where you work, how many courses and locations you want to target, and the state of your website today. For most driving schools, a monthly arrangement works best, because local rankings build over time. I start by looking at your site and your rivals, then send a fixed quote.
