Aaron's take

Florists live by a few big days. Searches for florists peak in February and May, and "flower shop near me" gets about 550,000 searches a month in the US, with "florist near me" about 450,000. Flower delivery, same-day delivery and funeral flowers each have large searches, and wedding florists are a separate, higher-value market.

The florists that win online have an easy ordering site with same-day delivery cut-off times, pages for occasions and sympathy flowers, a wedding portfolio, and clear delivery areas. Local florists compete with national order-gatherers, so being the real local shop with real photos matters. Six of the 10 most-reviewed florists I checked also list flower delivery and gift shop on their profile.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Online shop with delivery times

Show same-day cut-offs and delivery areas.

  2. Sympathy and funeral flowers page

About 49,500 searches a month. Handle with care.

  3. Wedding flowers page

Higher-value work with its own searches.

  4. Occasion pages

Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and birthdays each have searches.

  5. Delivery areas page

Show every town and hospital you deliver to.

  6. Subscriptions page

Regular orders smooth out the quiet months.

Google Business Profile

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Florist as your primary category. Of the 10 most-reviewed US florists I checked, 6 added Flower delivery and Gift shop, and 5 added Flower designer.
  • Post new arrangements often, especially before big holidays.
  • Keep holiday hours and delivery cut-offs accurate.
  • Ask customers to mention the occasion in their reviews.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for florists

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • The Knot
  • Facebook
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Florists can't use Local Services Ads, so paid search means Google Ads. Ads bring leads within days but stop the moment you stop paying. SEO takes months to build, then keeps working. Most businesses run ads for the most valuable searches while SEO grows, then shift budget as organic rankings take over.

For context, Google search ads in the Shopping, Collectibles & Gifts category average $49.40 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes florists make

  1. No online ordering

Buyers want to order now. Make it easy.

  2. Unclear delivery cut-offs

    Same-day buyers need exact times.

  3. Missing big days

Prepare pages and stock before peak holidays.

  4. Ignoring sympathy flowers

A large, sensitive market. Serve it well.

FAQ

Florist SEO questions

How do people search for florists?

Locally and urgently. In the US, "flower shop near me" gets about 550,000 searches a month, "florist near me" about 450,000 and "flower delivery" about 368,000. An easy ordering site with clear delivery cut-offs wins the most orders. Accurate holiday hours on your profile matter too.

Can florists use Local Services Ads?

No. Florist is not on Google's US Local Services Ads list. Regular Google Ads are the paid option, while SEO, reviews and a complete Google Business Profile bring in customers without a cost per click, and keep working when ad budgets are paused.

When do people search for florists?

In the US, florist searches peak in February, May and July and are lowest from August to November. Stock, staffing and holiday pages should be ready well before each peak, and subscriptions or corporate orders help fill the quieter months.

How can local florists compete with national flower websites?

By being clearly local. Show real photos of your arrangements, your shop and your delivery areas, and make ordering direct easy. Reviews that mention freshness and delivery help buyers choose the real local florist over an order-gatherer. Clear same-day cut-offs help as well.

How much does SEO cost for a florist?

There is no single price. The main factors are your local competition, the number of services and towns you want to show up for, and how much your current site needs fixing. Monthly work suits most florists, since rankings keep improving with new content and reviews. I give a fixed quote after reviewing your site and competitors.
