Aaron's take

Roofing is one of the most expensive trades to buy leads for. Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead, and storm season pushes that higher. Every job that comes from your own rankings is margin you keep.

The roofing sites I see struggle usually have the same gap: a homepage, a services list and a contact form. Homeowners search much more specifically than that. They type "roof leak repair", "hail damage roof" or "metal roofing", and in December, roof repair searches actually climb as winter leaks show up. A site that answers each of those searches on its own page, with photos of real jobs, is the one that gets the call.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Roof repair and leak repair page

Repair searches stay high all year and climb in winter. People with a leak call the first roofer who looks reliable.

  2. Roof replacement page, with materials

Replacement is the big ticket. Cover shingle and metal roofing separately, since "metal roofing" alone gets about 90,500 searches a month.

  3. Storm and hail damage page

"Hail damage roof" searches nearly double in spring. Explain inspections, photos and how you work with insurance claims.

  4. Roof inspection page

Inspections are an easy first step for buyers and sellers, and searches peak in winter. Many turn into repair or replacement jobs.

  5. Roof cost guide

Show price ranges for repairs and replacements and what changes them. Cost searches bring in homeowners who are close to deciding.

  6. Commercial roofing page, if you do it

Commercial roofing searches more than double in December. It is a separate buyer with separate questions, and it needs its own page.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for roofers

Primary category
Roofing contractor
Secondary categories
Siding contractorGutter serviceWindow installation serviceInsulation contractorSkylight contractor

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Roofing contractor as your primary category. Among the 20 most-reviewed US roofing companies I checked, half added Siding contractor and many added Window installation service and Gutter service.
  • Only add those secondary categories if you really do the work. Each one makes you eligible for a different set of searches.
  • Upload photos of finished roofs, with the material and town in the description, every week during the busy season.
  • Turn on messaging and reply fast. After a storm, homeowners contact several roofers at once and book whoever answers first.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for roofers

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • BBB
  • Best Pick Reports
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Roofers can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Roofing
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes roofers make

  1. No separate repair page

Homeowners with a leak search for repair, not replacement. Without a repair page, you miss the call that often leads to a full new roof.

  2. Stock photos of perfect roofs

Buyers want to see your crews and your finished jobs in their area. Real photos also give Google proof that you work where you say you do.

  3. Ignoring storm seasons

Hail and storm searches spike in spring. Pages about storm damage and insurance claims need to be live before the season, not written after.

  4. Letting reviews stall

Roofing buyers read reviews closely because the job is expensive and hard to judge. A steady flow of recent reviews matters more than an old high total.

FAQ

Roofing SEO questions

When do homeowners search for roofers?

In the US, roofing searches peak from June to August, at about one and a half times the December low. Repair searches behave differently and climb in winter as leaks appear. A good roofing site is built for both: replacements in summer and urgent repairs in the cold months.

Should a roofing company use Local Services Ads?

Roofing is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. Ads work best alongside SEO, because reviews and a complete profile help both. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

What should a roofing website include?

Separate pages for repair, replacement, storm and hail damage, inspections and each roofing material you install, plus a cost guide and photos of real jobs. Each page targets a different search. Add service area pages for your main towns once the core service pages are in place.

Should I put roofing prices on my website?

Give price ranges and explain what changes them, such as roof size, pitch, material and tear-off. Homeowners compare roofers on trust and price before they call. A clear explanation keeps them on your site, and every quote is still based on an inspection.

How much does SEO cost for a roofing company?

It depends on how competitive your area is, how many towns and services you want to rank for, and what your site needs. Most roofers pay monthly, because project pages, reviews and seasonal content need steady work. I look at your site and local competitors first, then give you a fixed quote.
