What about logo and cover photo sizes?
You’ll find plenty of sites quoting specific sizes for Google Business Profile cover photos and logos. Google doesn’t publish those. Its help page gives one specification for every photo, plus guidance on what each one is for:
- Logo: helps customers recognize your business. Google says the profile highlights the logo for businesses that have basic information like a phone number or hours.
- Cover photo: the image you’d like at the top of your profile. Google says setting one doesn’t guarantee it shows first. If it’s low quality, or other sources suggest it isn’t the best representation of your business, Google may show a customer’s photo instead.
In practice, upload images comfortably above the recommended size and keep the important part in the middle, because Google shows photos in different shapes in different places.
Google Business Profile picture quality rules
Size matters less than quality. Google asks that photos be:
- In focus and well lit.
- Free of significant alterations and heavy filters. In Google’s words, the image should represent reality.
That rules out heavily edited stock-style images and photos with text plastered over them.
What to photograph
Real photos of your business help customers decide, and Google’s own local ranking tips recommend adding photos and videos to show what you offer. A good starting set:
- Your logo, square, with space around it.
- The outside of your premises as customers see it from the street, so they recognize it when they arrive. Service-area businesses can show a branded vehicle instead.
- Inside, the waiting area, showroom or workspace.
- Your work: finished jobs, products, before and after shots.
- Your team, with their permission.
Add new photos regularly. A profile with recent photos shows customers the business is active.
How to prepare a photo
Most phone photos are already far larger than 720 × 720, which is fine, as long as the file stays under 5 MB. If a file is too big:
- Open it in any photo editor, including the one built into your phone or computer.
- Export or save it as a JPG at high quality.
- If it’s still over 5 MB, reduce the size until it fits, keeping it well above 720 pixels on the shortest side.
Don’t crop out the context. A photo of a finished kitchen should show the kitchen, not just one tap.
Videos
Videos can be up to 30 seconds and 75 MB, at 720p or higher. Short clips of a job, a walkthrough of your premises or your team at work all suit the format. Keep them real and unedited enough to represent the business honestly.
Photos not showing?
Google says photos and videos only appear after your Business Profile is verified. If yours is verified and photos still aren’t showing, check the file meets the requirements above, then give it time. My guide to Google Business Profile verification walks through getting verified, and how to edit your Business Profile covers what to do when changes don’t go through.
