Aaron's take

HVAC has two busy seasons, and most websites only prepare for one. Air conditioning repair searches climb through the summer, while "furnace repair" jumps to around 368,000 searches in December, almost twice its yearly average. The company that ranks for both keeps its technicians busy all year.

The other thing I see is that HVAC sites lead with the brand names they install. Homeowners do not search that way. They type "ac not cooling", "heating repair near me" or "new ac unit cost". Build a page for each of those problems and questions, make the phone number impossible to miss on mobile, and the calls follow.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. AC repair page

The biggest search in the trade. Lead with same-day service, your hours and a tap-to-call button.

  2. Furnace and heating repair page

Furnace repair searches nearly double in December. This page keeps the phones ringing after air conditioning season ends.

  3. AC and heat pump installation pages

Installs are the high-value jobs. Explain sizing, efficiency and what affects price, and show units you have installed.

  4. Maintenance plan page

Maintenance searches stay steady all year and turn one-off customers into recurring revenue.

  5. Duct cleaning page

About 90,500 searches a month, and it is a natural add-on to a service call.

  6. Replacement cost guide

Homeowners research new unit costs before they call. Ranges and what changes them bring in buyers who are ready to decide.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for HVAC companies

Primary category
HVAC contractor
Secondary categories
Heating contractorAir conditioning contractorAir conditioning repair serviceFurnace repair serviceAir duct cleaning service

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use HVAC contractor as your primary category. All 10 of the most-reviewed US HVAC companies I checked added Heating contractor, and most added Air conditioning contractor and Furnace repair service.
  • Many of the biggest HVAC companies also list Plumber and Electrician. Only add those if you really offer the work and hold the licences.
  • Set hours accurately and mark emergency availability. People with a broken AC call whoever looks open.
  • Post photos of installs and service calls, and add each service with a short description so the profile matches specific searches.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for HVAC companies

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • BBB
  • ConsumerAffairs
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

HVAC Companies can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: HVAC
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes HVAC companies make

  1. Only planning for summer

Heating repair searches climb in winter. A site built only around air conditioning goes quiet for half the year.

  2. Leading with equipment brands

Homeowners search for the problem, not the brand. Pages should start with the problem and how fast you can fix it.

  3. A phone number that is hard to tap

Most emergency searches happen on phones. If calling takes more than one tap, the next company in the results gets the job.

  4. No maintenance plan page

Maintenance plans smooth out the seasons. Without a page that explains yours, customers only call when something breaks.

FAQ

HVAC SEO questions

When is the busy season for HVAC companies?

There are two. Air conditioning searches peak in July, and heating searches such as "furnace repair" peak in December at almost twice their yearly average. HVAC sites need strong pages for both, published a few months before each season so they have time to rank.

Should an HVAC company use Local Services Ads?

HVAC is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. They work best alongside SEO, because reviews and a complete profile help both. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

What Google Business Profile categories should an HVAC company use?

Use HVAC contractor as the primary category, then add Heating contractor, Air conditioning contractor and the repair categories that match your work. The most-reviewed HVAC companies in the US use several. Only add Plumber or Electrician if you are licensed and really offer those services.

Should I put HVAC prices on my website?

Give ranges for common jobs and new units, and explain what changes the price, such as system size, efficiency and ductwork. People research replacement costs before they call. Ranges build trust and bring in leads who already know roughly what to expect.

How much does SEO cost for an HVAC company?

It depends on your market, how many services and towns you want to rank for, and what your site needs. Most HVAC companies pay monthly, because seasonal pages, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and local competitors first, then give you a fixed quote.
