Aaron's take

Moving is a trust business. People hand over everything they own to strangers, and one of the questions Google shows next to moving company reviews is literally about red flags with movers. "Movers near me" and "moving companies near me" each get around 301,000 searches a month in the US, and the movers who win those searches look trustworthy before anyone picks up the phone.

That means real crew photos instead of stock trucks, clear pricing or a way to estimate cost, licence and insurance details on the site, and separate pages for local, long distance, packing and specialty moves like pianos. Summer is the peak, so the pages have to be ranking by spring.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Local moving page

"Local movers" gets about 60,500 searches a month. Explain hourly pricing, crew sizes and what is included.

  2. Long distance moving page

Higher value moves with different pricing and rules. Explain how estimates work and how long delivery takes.

  3. Packing services page

Packing adds value to every move. Explain full and partial packing and what materials you supply.

  4. Specialty moves: pianos and seniors

Piano movers gets about 12,100 searches a month. Specialty pages bring in customers who will pay for care.

  5. Moving cost page or calculator

People search for moving costs and calculators. Even rough ranges by home size keep them on your site.

  6. Licensing and insurance page

Show your USDOT number if you move across state lines, your insurance and how claims work. It answers the red flag question directly.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for moving companies

Primary category
Mover
Secondary categories
Moving and storage serviceMoving supply storePiano moving serviceStorage facility

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Google's category for moving companies is Mover. Of the 10 most-reviewed US movers I checked, 7 added Moving and storage service and 3 added Piano moving service.
  • Add Storage facility or Moving and storage service only if you offer storage.
  • Upload photos of your real crews and trucks. Customers want to see who will be in their home.
  • Ask for reviews the day after the move, while the customer is settled and relieved.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for moving companies

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Trustpilot
  • BBB
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Moving Companies can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Moving
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes moving companies make

  1. Stock photos of trucks

Customers want to see your crews and your trucks. Stock images make a moving company look like a broker.

  2. No idea of cost

People compare movers on price. Ranges by home size or an estimate tool keep them on your site.

  3. Hiding licences and insurance

Trust is the biggest worry in moving. Show your registration numbers and insurance plainly.

  4. Starting SEO in summer

Searches peak in June and July. Pages need to be ranking by spring to catch the busy season.

FAQ

Moving Company SEO questions

When do people search for movers?

In the US, mover searches peak in June and July at about 1.6 times the December low. A moving company's local, long distance and cost pages should be ranking by spring to catch the busy season. Searches stay lowest from November to January, which is the time to build new pages.

Should a moving company use Local Services Ads?

Moving is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. Ads bring leads within days, while SEO builds rankings that keep working without a cost per lead. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

How can movers build trust online?

Show real crew and truck photos, your licence and insurance details, how claims work and clear pricing or estimates. Questions about red flags with movers appear right next to moving company reviews on Google, so answering them openly is one of the strongest things your site can do.

Should a moving company show prices?

Give ranges by home size and type of move, or offer an estimate tool. People search for how much movers cost and for moving cost calculators. Clear pricing keeps them on your site and brings in leads who understand what a move involves.

How much does SEO cost for a moving company?

It depends on how competitive your area is, how many move types and towns you want to rank for and what your website needs first. Most moving companies pay monthly, because new pages, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and the competitors near you first, then give you a fixed quote.
