Aaron's take

Pool buyers plan months ahead. Searches for inground pool costs in April are nearly three times the December level, but the people searching in April want to swim by summer, and most builders are already booked. The pool companies that fill their calendars are the ones whose pages rank during the winter planning months.

What those buyers want is clarity on three things: which type of pool, what it costs and how long it takes. Fiberglass and plunge pools each get tens of thousands of searches a month. A page for each pool type, honest price ranges, a build timeline and a gallery of finished backyards does more than any amount of brochure copy.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. A page for each pool type you build

Fiberglass, concrete and plunge pools are different choices with different costs and timelines. Each has its own searches.

  2. Pool cost page

"Inground pool cost" peaks in spring. Ranges and what changes them turn browsers into consultation requests.

  3. Build process and timeline page

Buyers want to know how long it takes and what happens to their yard. Walk through design, permits, excavation and finishing.

  4. Gallery of finished pools

Pool buyers buy with their eyes. Organise projects by pool type and style.

  5. Pool remodeling page

Owners of older pools search for remodels. It is steady work outside the new build season.

  6. Financing page

A pool is a big purchase. Explaining financing options removes a common reason to delay.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for pool builders

Primary category
Swimming pool contractor
Secondary categories
Swimming pool repair serviceSwimming pool supply storePool cleaning serviceHot tub repair service

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Swimming pool contractor as your primary category. Of the 10 most-reviewed US pool companies I checked, 7 added Swimming pool repair service and 5 added Swimming pool supply store.
  • Only add Pool cleaning service or Hot tub repair service if you offer them. They bring steady work between builds.
  • Upload photos and videos of finished pools, with the pool type and town in the description.
  • Post during construction too. Progress photos show buyers what the process looks like.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for pool builders

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • Houzz
  • BBB
  • Trustpilot
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Pool Builders can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Pool contractor
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes pool builders make

  1. Waiting for summer

By the time searches peak, the best builders are booked. Pages have to rank during the winter planning months.

  2. No idea of cost

Cost is the first question. Builders who hide it lose buyers to those who explain it.

  3. One page for every pool type

Fiberglass, concrete and plunge pools each have their own searches and their own buyers.

  4. A gallery without detail

Label each pool with its type, size and features so buyers can find one like the pool they want.

FAQ

Pool Builder SEO questions

When should a pool builder invest in SEO?

Before winter. In the US, pool builder searches peak in July at about 2.2 times the November low, but buyers who want to swim by summer start planning much earlier. Pages ranking in January and February catch them while they are still choosing a builder.

Can pool builders use Local Services Ads?

Pool contractor is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. Ads bring leads within days, while SEO builds rankings that keep working without a cost per lead. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Should a pool builder show prices online?

Give ranges for each pool type and explain what changes the cost, such as size, materials, decking and site access. Inground pool cost searches climb every spring. Ranges keep buyers on your site and bring in consultations from people with realistic budgets.

Which pages matter most for a pool builder?

A page for each pool type, a cost page, a build process and timeline page and a gallery of finished pools. Fiberglass pools alone get about 40,500 searches a month in the US. A remodeling page and a financing page help fill the rest of the year.

How much does SEO cost for a pool builder?

It depends on how competitive your area is, how many pool types and towns you want to rank for and what your website needs first. Most pool builders pay monthly, because new pages, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and the competitors near you first, then give you a fixed quote.
