Aaron's take

Tree work splits into two very different customers. One has a tree on the roof after a storm and needs someone today. The other wants a tree trimmed or a stump ground out and is comparing quotes. "Tree service near me" gets around 135,000 searches a month in the US, and "stump grinding" alone about 74,000.

The tree companies that win online serve both. A clear emergency page with a phone number front and centre, separate pages for removal, trimming and stump grinding, proof of insurance and arborist credentials, and before-and-after photos. Insurance matters more here than in most trades, because the work is dangerous and homeowners know it.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Emergency tree service page

Storm damage is urgent. Lead with your phone number, availability and how fast you respond.

  2. Tree removal page

The core job. Explain how you remove trees safely near houses and lines, and what clean-up includes.

  3. Tree trimming page

About 40,500 searches a month. Explain why and when to trim, and how it protects the tree and the house.

  4. Stump grinding page

About 74,000 searches a month, and often a quick, profitable job on its own or after a removal.

  5. Insurance and credentials page

Tree work is dangerous. Show your insurance and any arborist certifications plainly.

  6. Cost page

People search for tree removal and trimming costs. Ranges and what changes them keep them on your site.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for tree service companies

Primary category
Tree service
Secondary categories
Arborist serviceLawn care serviceMulch supplierCrane service

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Tree service as your primary category. The most-reviewed US tree companies I checked added few secondaries, most often Arborist service.
  • Add Arborist service only if you have a certified arborist on staff, and Crane service only if you run your own crane.
  • Upload before-and-after photos of removals and trims, with the town in the description.
  • After a storm, post updates about your availability. People search for help at once.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for tree service companies

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • HomeAdvisor
  • Thumbtack
  • Facebook
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Tree Service Companies can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Tree service
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes tree service companies make

  1. No emergency page

Storm damage brings the most urgent calls. Without a clear emergency page, you miss them.

  2. Hiding insurance

Homeowners know tree work is dangerous. If proof of insurance is hard to find, they call someone else.

  3. Forgetting stump grinding

Stump grinding gets about 74,000 searches a month on its own. It deserves its own page.

  4. Not following up after storms

After a storm, people search immediately. Posting your availability on your profile and site wins those jobs.

FAQ

Tree Service SEO questions

When do people search for tree services?

Searches peak from June to August in the US, at about 1.9 times the December low, and storms cause sudden local spikes. Emergency tree removal swings even more: about 12,100 searches in July 2026 against 2,400 in February, so an emergency page should be ready before storm season.

Should a tree service company use Local Services Ads?

Tree service is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. Ads bring leads within days, while SEO builds rankings that keep working without a cost per lead. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Should tree companies show insurance and credentials?

Yes, clearly. Tree work is dangerous, and homeowners worry about damage and injuries on their property. Show your liability insurance, workers compensation and any certified arborists on staff. It is one of the main reasons people choose one tree company over another.

Should tree services show prices online?

Give ranges for removal, trimming and stump grinding, and explain what changes them, such as tree size, access and how close the tree is to buildings. People search for tree removal costs before calling. Ranges keep them on your site.

How much does SEO cost for a tree service company?

It depends on how competitive your area is, how many services and towns you want to rank for and what your website needs first. Most tree service companies pay monthly, because new pages, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and the competitors near you first, then give you a fixed quote.
