Aaron's take

Lawn care is the most seasonal trade I have looked at. Search interest in April is about three times what it is in December, and "lawn aeration" swings from around 22,000 searches in December to 201,000 in April. If your website is not ready by early spring, the season is already half gone.

The work I did for Otter Landscapes, which took them from #14 to #1 in Google Maps for "yard cleanup tualatin" in under 60 days, followed a simple pattern that suits lawn care too: one page per service, named towns and real photos. Add a page for each treatment program, from fertilization to grub control, and a clear price guide, and you start winning the recurring customers that carry the business through winter.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. Aeration and overseeding page

One of the biggest lawn searches, and it peaks in spring and again in autumn. Explain timing and what results to expect.

  2. Fertilization and weed control program page

Fertilization searches jump from about 8,100 in December to 74,000 in April. Recurring programs are the most valuable customers.

  3. Mowing service page

Mowing searches spike in spring. Explain frequency, what is included and how billing works.

  4. Grub and pest control page, if you offer it

Six of the 10 most-reviewed US lawn care companies also list pest control. It is a natural add-on to a treatment program.

  5. Pricing page

People search for monthly lawn care prices. Ranges by lawn size and service keep them on your site.

  6. Service area pages for your main towns

Lawn care is local, and route density matters. Pages for the towns you want to grow in bring work where your crews already are.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for lawn care companies

Primary category
Lawn care service
Secondary categories
LandscaperPest control serviceLawn sprinkler system contractorSnow removal serviceTree service

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Lawn care service as your primary category. Among the 10 most-reviewed US lawn care companies I checked, six also listed Pest control service and three listed Landscaper.
  • Only add Pest control service if you are licensed to apply those treatments in your state.
  • Add Snow removal service in winter if you offer it. It keeps your profile active in the off season.
  • Post photos of lawns through the season, with the treatment and town in the description.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for lawn care companies

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • Thumbtack
  • BBB
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Lawn Care Companies can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Lawn care
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes lawn care companies make

  1. Starting in spring

By April, demand is at its peak and new pages have not had time to rank. Build them over winter.

  2. Selling single visits instead of programs

Recurring treatment programs are worth far more than one-off mows. Pages should explain the program, not just the service.

  3. No prices at all

People search for monthly lawn care costs. Without ranges, they move on to companies that give them.

  4. Going quiet in winter

Profiles and websites that stop updating in winter lose ground. Post snow removal or planning content to stay active.

FAQ

Lawn Care SEO questions

When should a lawn care company start SEO?

In autumn or early winter. In the US, lawn care searches in April are about three times the December level, and new pages usually need a few months to rank. Starting before the season means your site is already showing up when homeowners begin looking in March.

Should a lawn care company use Local Services Ads?

Lawn care is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. They work best alongside SEO and a steady flow of good reviews. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Should I put lawn care prices on my website?

Yes, as ranges by lawn size and service. Homeowners search for monthly lawn care prices before they call. Clear ranges keep them on your site and bring in leads who already understand the cost of a full program. Rising searches include how much lawn care costs per month.

Which pages matter most for lawn care SEO?

Aeration and overseeding, fertilization and weed control programs, mowing and pricing. Aeration alone gets around 110,000 searches a month. Add pages for your main towns once those are live, so you win work close to your existing routes. Fertilization alone jumps from about 8,100 searches in December to 74,000 in April.

How much does SEO cost for a lawn care company?

It depends on how many towns and services you want to rank for, how competitive your area is and what your site needs. Most lawn care companies pay monthly, because seasonal content, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and competitors first, then give you a fixed quote.
