Aaron's take

Tutoring has one of the clearest seasonal patterns in education. Searches peak in September and again in January and February, and drop away in summer and December. "Tutoring" gets around 110,000 searches a month in the US, and parents also search by subject, with math tutor at about 27,100 and SAT prep at about 33,100.

The tutoring centres that win online have a page for each subject and test, explain how sessions work, in person or online, show results honestly without guaranteeing grades, and make a first assessment easy to book. Online tutoring searches spike in December, so an online option is worth promoting then.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. A page for each subject

Parents search by subject. Math, reading and English each need a page.

  2. Test prep pages

SAT and other tests have their own searches and deadlines.

  3. Online tutoring page

Online searches spike in December. Explain how online sessions work.

  4. Free assessment page

A first assessment is an easy first step for parents.

  5. Prices and packages page

Parents compare costs. Clear packages help them decide.

  6. Tutors page

Parents want to know who will teach their child.

Google Business Profile

What to get right

  • Use Tutoring service as your primary category. The most-reviewed US tutoring businesses I checked added few secondaries, most often Private tutor, Education center and Educational consultant.
  • Post before each school term and test date.
  • List subjects and tests as services on your profile.
  • Ask parents to mention the subject and progress in their reviews, in their own words.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for tutoring centers

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Facebook
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Tutoring Centers can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Tutor

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Education & Instruction category average $77.48 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes tutoring centers make

  1. One generic page

Parents search by subject and test. Give each its own page.

  2. Guaranteeing grades

Promises you cannot keep damage trust. Show real progress instead.

  3. Missing the term starts

Searches peak in September and January. Be ready before then.

  4. No first step

A free assessment or trial session makes it easy to start.

FAQ

Tutoring SEO questions

When do parents search for tutors?

In the US, tutoring searches peak in September, and again in January and February, and are lowest in July and December. Publishing subject pages and offers before each term starts means you are visible when the most parents are looking.

Can tutoring centres use Local Services Ads?

Tutor is one of Google's US Local Services Ads categories. You pay per lead, and ads can appear above regular results for tutoring searches. They work best alongside SEO, because reviews from parents help both. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Should tutoring centres have pages for each subject?

Yes. Parents search by subject and test, such as math tutor, about 27,100 searches a month in the US, and SAT prep, about 33,100. A page for each subject and test matches those searches and shows you teach exactly what their child needs.

Should tutoring centres promote online sessions?

If you offer them, yes. Online tutoring searches rise in December, when in-person demand drops. A clear page explaining how online sessions work, and how they compare with in-person lessons, helps you keep bookings steady through quieter months. Online sessions also let you serve families beyond your local area.

How much does SEO cost for a tutoring center?

That comes down to three things: the competition where you work, how many subjects and locations you want to target, and the state of your website today. For most tutoring centers, a monthly arrangement works best, because local rankings build over time. I start by looking at your site and your rivals, then send a fixed quote.
