Aaron's take

People do not search for pest control in general. They search for the pest. "Bed bug exterminator" gets around 135,000 searches a month in the US, and termite inspection, ants, mosquitoes, rodents and wasps each get tens of thousands. A pest control site with one services page catches almost none of that.

The seasons are strong, too. Overall pest control searches in summer run about twice the December level, but rodent control holds steady through winter. The companies that grow build a page for each pest, explain treatment and safety for kids and pets, and sell recurring plans rather than one-off visits.

Your website

Pages your website needs

In the order I would build them. Each page targets one group of searches.

  1. A page for each pest you treat

People search for the pest first. Bed bugs, termites, ants, mosquitoes, rodents and wasps each get tens of thousands of searches a month.

  2. Termite inspection page

About 60,500 searches a month, often from home buyers and sellers. Inspections lead to treatment work.

  3. Recurring pest control plans page

Plans turn one-off visits into steady revenue. Explain frequency, coverage and what happens between visits.

  4. Safety for kids and pets page

A common worry. Explain the products you use and how you keep families and pets safe.

  5. Pricing page

People search for pest control costs. Ranges for one-off treatments and plans keep them on your site.

  6. Commercial pest control page, if you do it

Restaurants and property managers have different needs and inspections. Keep them separate.

How I plan and build sites like this

Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile for pest control companies

Primary category
Pest control service
Secondary categories
Animal control serviceLawn care serviceInsulation contractorHome inspector

Categories checked on October 13, 2026

What to get right

  • Use Pest control service as your primary category. The most-reviewed US pest control companies I checked added a mix of Landscaper, Lawn care service, Animal control service and Insulation contractor.
  • Only add those if you are licensed and really offer the work. Lawn and insulation categories suit companies that treat lawns or install attic insulation.
  • Add each pest you treat as a service, so your profile matches searches like "bed bug exterminator".
  • Post photos of technicians and vehicles. Customers want to know who is coming into their home.

Reviews

Reviews that matter for pest control companies

Where reviews count

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • ConsumerAffairs
  • Facebook
  • Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, right after the job is done.
  • Send one short message with a direct link, so leaving a review takes a single tap.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, calmly and specifically.
  • Never pay for reviews or offer anything in return. It breaks Google's rules.

Ads and SEO

Local Services Ads, Google Ads and SEO

Pest Control Companies can advertise with Local Services Ads, the "Google Verified" ads that sit above everything else for many local searches. You pay per lead, not per click.

  • Google category: Pest control
  • The Google Verified badge is available for this category.
  • Pre-badge ads are available while verification is pending.
  • Booking leads are available.

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals, starting with a first US phase in August 2026.

Ads and SEO work best together. Ads buy leads while your organic and map rankings grow, and strong reviews and a complete Google Business Profile help both. As SEO brings in more leads for free, you can lower ad spend on the searches you already win.

For context, Google search ads in the Home & Home Improvement category average $90.92 per lead (LocaliQ, 2026). That is a search ads benchmark, not a Local Services Ads lead price.

Mistakes

Mistakes pest control companies make

  1. One page for every pest

People search for the pest by name. Without a page for each, you miss most of the searches.

  2. Selling only one-off treatments

Recurring plans are where the steady revenue is. Pages should explain your plans, not just single visits.

  3. Ignoring winter

Rodent control searches hold steady through winter. A rodent page keeps work coming when insect calls drop.

  4. Not addressing safety

Families worry about chemicals around kids and pets. Answer it plainly on your site.

FAQ

Pest Control SEO questions

When is pest control busiest?

In summer. US pest control searches from June to August run about 2.2 times the December level. Rodent control is the exception and holds steady through winter. Pest pages should be ranking by spring, with a rodent page to keep work coming in the cold months.

Should a pest control company use Local Services Ads?

Pest control is a Local Services Ads category in the US, with the Google Verified badge, pre-badge ads and booking leads available. Ads bring leads within days, while SEO builds rankings that keep working without a cost per lead. Google says these ads are ranked on factors such as your distance from the customer, your reviews and how quickly you respond to leads.

Why does each pest need its own page?

Because people search for the pest, not the service. Bed bug exterminator gets about 135,000 searches a month in the US, and termites, ants, mosquitoes, rodents and wasps each get tens of thousands. One general page cannot rank for all of them.

Should pest control companies show prices?

Give ranges for common treatments and your recurring plans, and explain what changes them, such as the size of the home and the pest. People search for pest control costs before they call. Clear pricing keeps them on your site and makes plans easier to sell.

How much does SEO cost for a pest control company?

It depends on how competitive your area is, how many pests and towns you want to rank for and what your website needs first. Most pest control companies pay monthly, because new pages, reviews and local work need steady attention. I look at your site and the competitors near you first, then give you a fixed quote.
